Electric Lights Everywhere

Energy

If you believe in the law of conservation of energy, that is that energy can neither be created nor destroyed (a cornerstone for modern science) then I have a funny thought.

Entropy is the natural progression of the universe toward lower energy. A Popsicle takes a great amount of energy to organize, but if left to its own devices it will melt, returning to its original state. Sweet water and a stick.

So that means if you drag yourself out of bed and begrudgingly spend Saturday morning cleaning your room, your effort means nothing, because every bit of energy you put into cleaning your room, by order of the law of conservation of energy, is being destroyed in the exact same amount somewhere else in the universe.

Is this an argument to stay in bed all day? Maybe. But I think it’s just a nerdier way to say this:

Do what you love, because everything else means nothing.
